So I decided to start a blog to keep users posted of my photographic adventures! I think anyone in the market for a photographer likes to see how the mind of the one they are considering works, so here is some insight into mine!
So a few weeks ago I agreed to do a band shoot at Walter Park in NJ. It was exceptionally cold, and the girls had a really difficult time hiding it on their faces or even staying out of the nice warm car to do photos for more than 15 minutes at a time. Every shoot starts with challenges, these were ours and we worked with them … We started out on the bleachers:
Then we came across a brick wall that was actually the designated home of the park ladies room, where I saw the opportunity to take some individual shots.
We moved onto the next location, which was simple brick enclave. I saw that the obvious spot offering the best background was a bit too shadowy for my taste but I know some bands are into the drama it can bring to a photo so I took a couple shots there anyway and moved on…
I moved the girls over to the place where the sun would hit their faces just right. I taught them a trick that allowed them to avoid looking squinty in the photos, which turned out to be some of my favorite of the bunch
Our last stop was a nearby caged bridge where we thought we could get the urban R&B-band look they were going for. Again they drove their cars the few feet over to get as close as possible to the location, but what ended up happening was that the cars found their way into my background. When I noticed the vehicles, the girls were too cold to go move them and continue, so our entire session was cut short. Post processing, I stuck my nose to the grindstone and did a crystal clear job of Photoshopping out AN ENTIRE CAR in one photo, and really making the cars work in the other with a little extra gaussian blurr– (note how the second photo has carS and the first only has one, much less distracting one).
Overall, in less than an hour of shooting I managed to get some excellent photos the band was very happy with and chose to have enlarged and on display at their upcoming publicity event!
