So every once in a while, I have one of those really laid back couples that I book completely via email. Thank you digital age, I don’t have to leave the house and no one must bear witness to what sounds like a giggly 12-year-old on the other end of the line trying to sell you wedding photography. The only drawback is that I almost get NERVOUS then when meeting these clients for the first time! Walking up to Kelly, I noticed two things in particular; the first is that she was very pretty! And the second was that she was far more nervous than I was!

Luckily, or not-so-luckily-for-the-couple, I do have a plan of action for situations such as these… I pretty much say everything and anything to get the couple to relax and just be themselves. Kelly and Joe actually ended up being pretty easy nuts to crack. Once they caught on to the fact that my style pretty much involves just pointing them in a general direction and then letting them talk and have fun, they were extremely easy to work with and gave me one great shot after another! Even the weather cooperated, and it was a rare blue-sky day in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Kelly and Joe opted to have their session at the university where they first met, and I absolutely love when couples use places that have sentimental meaning to them. Looking back at the pictures now, I find it funny that they almost didn’t even consider using the location, because they were afraid it wouldn’t be pretty enough for my pictures! I have to respectfully disagree with them there 😉

Even when we started to catch a chill and needed to warm up a bit in pretty much the only indoor locations that remained open that Sunday – the cafeteria and one classroom building – I didn’t pass on any photo ops. I like to say it’s not about the location, it’s how you use it!

I took some of the time we spent walking around campus to get to know this couple a little. I found out that both Kelly and Joe have great jobs working in the medical field. Kelly is actually a nurse, just like one of my favorite past clients!

To the happy couple: Well, it was just plain fantastic to meet you both! I hope I’m not too off the wall for your liking… you know us artsy types! Anyway, I know your wedding is going to be gorgeous, and the two of you could not be sweeter. I feel so lucky knowing I have another fantastic couple on my 2011 calendar. July especially is going to be one kick-butt month!
