This weekend I had the privilege of photographing Mallory and Will’s wedding in Clark’s Summit, PA. I’ve now photographed a few weddings in this beautiful and remote Poconos location. Besides having it be beautiful and classy, Mallory wanted one thing for her wedding; for it to take place on her parent’s property. I can picture her running around on the acres and acres of beautiful land as a little girl, picking flowers, and when she got older, snowmobiling on the frozen lake, which we recreated for her engagement session, and can totally understand how such a place would be the source of such fond memories for her. I’m so glad it didn’t rain during the ceremony or during picture time and we were able to shoot outside and give her the pictures she had probably been envisioning since the day she starting thinking about her wedding.

I know you’re probably dying to see pictures of Mallory’s parent’s estate now, but let’s start first with some photos of her handsome new husband, Will, which were taken by my second shooter while I photographed Mallory getting ready.

Back at Mallory’s, I must say, her mother has the most beautiful taste. The décor in her house made for a very classy backdrop for getting-ready photos, and inspired me to take photos that really embraced that elegance. We started with the details.

Mallory had her hair done at City Lights, but the feeling carried through even those photos. With her simplistic hairstyle and classic gown, bride Mallory was a vision to behold.

The ceremony was a tent ceremony on the family’s property. The light coming through the back of the tent was strong, but with a little flash and just the right settings, the photos came out with just the right amount of artistic Gaussian blur as the couple’s backdrop. Loving the first-kiss shot!

After the ceremony, we took some bridal party/bride and groom shots around the property. The sky was on the dark side after being on the verge of rain all day, but I think it actually ended up contributing to the look of some of the photos. As usual, Mallory and Will were naturals in front of the camera, and didn’t require much direction from me. Mallory is so quick to smile when she is around Will, which only confirms what a great couple they make. After photos it was on our way to Fern Hall Inn for the wedding reception.

It was a tent reception at Fern Hall as well, featuring mostly white wedding décor with just little splashes of color. Everything looked beautiful in person, but to keep it from looking too sterile in photos, my second and I warmed it up with two gelled light stands positioned as backlights, creating a fun, party atmosphere. Being outside in the tent, there wasn’t even power to plug in the lights and it was lucky that we had Vagabonds to provide our own power; it was quite the elaborate setup! Here is how the photos came out:

To Mallory and Will: I know how stressful it can be to plan a wedding, especially in the midst of the crazy amount of other things you two super-stars do on a daily basis! But on the wedding day, seeing you together, it’s like all your problems just melted away. A husband/wife should be a constant comfort to you, someone who brings a bright smile to a dark and dreary day, and someone who shares your dreams and future goals. You two have all of that, and I wish you a long and happy future together, but I think that’s a given 😉 Congratulations!
