Nicole and Jeff’s wedding day got a bit of late start when before even heading out to her hair and makeup appointment, Nicole dropped her wedding ring down the toilet. Yes, this is a true a story so don’t question me again, haha. She went to fish it out, and couldn’t get her hand out, so her options were either let the ring go down the drain, or stay stuck to the toilet. I hear she stayed stuck to the toilet for quite a while before finally admitting defeat and letting go of the ring.
Fast forward to when I arrived at Nicole’s house…. it’s a good thing I stopped in a Dunkin Donuts to use the bathroom beforehand, because had I needed to go then, there would have been nothing but a hole in the floor in lieu of a loo! Thankfully, they were able to retrieve the ring. I’m sorry Nicole, but there is no way I was NOT going to tell this story on your blog… you know you will be telling it to your future kids for generations to come!
Now that that’s out of the way, I think it’s time to share some pictures from Nicole and Jeff’s wedding; they deserve them! The wedding took place at the Scranton Cultural Center, in Scranton, PA, on July 30th, 2011, with pictures taken at Nay Aug, Park, the University of Scranton, and the Cultural Center.
The boys got ready at the Radisson hotel in Scranton. They were already pretty much ready when my second shooter arrived, but he did manage to quickly get some nice group shots before they jetted over to Our Lady of the Snows Church in Clark’s Summit for the ceremony.
This is the second time I’ve shot a wedding at Our Lady of the Snows… it’s one of the darker churches in the area lightingwise, but I love the stone backdrop for photos, and didn’t Nicole look just beautiful walking with her dad?
One thing I love about Catholic ceremonies, most ceremonies are in the afternoon, so there is a nice big gap between the ceremony and reception for bride-and-groom/bridal party photos. Nay Aug Park in Scranton is always a great choice for photos, and we were actually very fortunate that we JUST beat another wedding party there when we arrived. They were right on our tails at every spot, but had we not gotten their first, we’d have lost valuable time waiting on them.
One of my favorite things about the location is this giant treehouse. It is by far the coolest treehouse I’ve ever seen, anywhere. My one regret is making poor Nicole and Jeff hoof over to it and then not being able to remember where it was! There was definitely a closer parking lot, but we’ll just chock that one up to another funny wedding story. At least I hope that’s how they see it!
After Nay Aug we hopping back in the limo bus, which as my luck has had it, had malfunctioning air conditioning. We caught some great moments, including listening to commercials for what felt like forever until we finally begged one of the groomsmen to give up his iphone to stream into the system. He reluctantly handed it over, forewarning us that he took no responsibility for what played on his Pandora. We rocked it out to some Journey on our way to the next photo location!
We took a few more bride-and-groom photos inside the Cultural Center. I particularly loved how the library shots turned out — they felt especially appropriate because Nicole and Jeff are both lawyers.
The main thing I want to say about the reception is … WOW! The Scranton Cultural Center is fabulous to begin with, but the way Nicole and Jeff decked it out really put it over the top. Impeccable taste you two!
The first dance was beautiful, and I couldn’t get enough of that beautiful stage lighting where the Picture Perfect Band was playing.
The bride’s dad and sister both gave great speeches and I enjoyed the father/daughter dance. Eventually the cake was cut — right before it almost fell over! No smashing here, but I do love this one shot of Nicole and Jeff linking arms taking a small taste.
The couple’s guests started to get into the groove, and the dancefloor became a pretty lively place!
To Nicole and Jeff: I’m not going to lie… the lawyers being “stiff” stereotype is complete malarky. You two are a really fun couple, with a great sense of humor. Couple that with sophisticated taste and great looks, and I’d say you both hit the jackpot finding each other! Best of luck in all your future endeavors; I wish you only the best in life and marriage!
