Ever since Sean and I moved to Colorado in April, we’ve been DYING to shoot a wedding in Vail! Not only did Kendyl and Jason provide us that opportunity, they couldn’t have made our first trip out there for a wedding more beautiful, memorable or unique.

A lot of that of course has to do with the fact that Kendyl and Jason have such an original array of interests in common, among which is their passion for traveling to some off-the-beaten-path locations. They’re not just interested in places like Paris, Rome and Sydney, but places like Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Bolivia and the like. Basically, if they have to travel via a rickety caravan that could leave them stranded in the middle of the desert  with the distinct possibility of catching a stray bullet from an angry local… they’re there!

Props to them for being two of the most unique, laid back, well-educated (eh hem ::Princeton grads:: eh hem), and HUMBLE people I am now proud to call friends  – we couldn’t have felt more privileged to share their day!

As usual, Sean did a fabulous job of photographing the boys… gotta love the Lego-man cufflink!

Kendyl and Jason opted for a “first look” to make more time for photos. Things ran pretty late, so our planned 45 minutes of bride and groom time got cut down to more like 10, but it helps when you really can’t take a bad picture of the couple or the location.

It was an absolutely beautiful outdoor ceremony and Vail certainly lived up to its reputation for stunning mountain views!

We really wanted to make time for one of our creative wedding party photos after the ceremony, so we marched everyone over to Betty Ford Gardens for one quick shot of this beautiful bunch NOT just standing in a line cheesing at the camera.

We were expecting to have just a little more time with just Kendyl and Jason for photos, but to quote the Shawshank Redemption, “Some birds just aren’t meant to be caged – their feathers are just too bright.” That was Kendyl and Jason all right, and after just one quick setup they took flight to join their guests at the cocktail hour.

The couple decided on a completely unique travel-themed reception, for which the Larkspur Restaurant in Vail, Colorado, provided the perfect setting. The book-and-twine centerpieces were a head-nod to the couple’s Princeton University beginnings, while the post cards were genuine souvenirs from their many real-life journeys together.

Guests in attendance flew from all over the world, including Dubai, Scottland, Afghanistan and Canada to celebrate this amazing couple… and celebrate they did…hard!

To Kendyl and Jason: This is where I would usually post all my mushy thoughts on how amazing the couple is together, how much we enjoyed working with them, blah, blah, blah… but since you guys already know we love ya, I’m left with only this: Thank you so much for teaching me that no matter how compelling an argument the groom makes, to never shoot Jameson after a wedding again. Have a blessed marriage you two!
