As a child, I remember my parents taking me to Wildwood, NJ, every year for our family vacation. We always stayed at the Cavalier Hotel and finally stopped going a couple of years after the Cavalier was demolished. A special part of our trip was always the one day that we would spend in Cape May. My grandmother would buy me a stuffed seal there each time we went, and we somehow always managed to find a different one for my collection (thanks to the movie Andre coming out!) I don’t recall a single year that we went to Cape May that it didn’t rain and it sort of became part of our tradition.
Needless to say, when good friend and fellow photographer Jim Heine told me that he had booked a wedding in Cape May, I was immediately jealous and offered to second shoot it. Jim accepted and “On our Way to Cape May” this year, it rained, holding up my tradition! Luckily for the couple, however, the rain let up early on and they ended up with a gorgeous day to get married outside on the beach!
The couple had a very large wedding party, and it was fun for me to shoot the boys getting ready for a change…
K&J opted for a first look to make some extra time for photos of their huge wedding party and some romantic shots of the two of them.
The ceremony took place on the beach with a gorgeous ocean backdrop and beautiful white banners waving in the wind.
This wedding had so many lovely beach-themed details, it would have taken me a year to post them all on this blog, so I had to pick and choose my favorites.
The party kicked off with some very entertaining entrances and an emotional first dance by the couple, events that were quickly followed by speeches, dancing, and more dancing!
To top it all off, with still more than an hour of wedding left to shoot after, Jim and I decided to go for a quick swim in the ocean with all our clothes on carrying $8k worth of non-water-proofed-gear each. Luckily my new Nikon D4 survived, but I can’t say the same for Jim’s Canon, may it rest in peace. Thanks to both Jim and the couple for giving me yet another year’s worth of Cape May memories to celebrate!
